The Best Events

Fiona Young watched her parents work long hard hours managing pubs. She grew up with a strong work ethic, about taking responsibility, pride and creative initiative and working to excellent standards. Eventually they set up their own business and Fiona saw the benefits of this, and wished they had done it earlier in their lives.

The maiden event of Furness Fest looks like it will be a runaway success with 66 performers now confirmed, including:

  • The Holloways (UK chart singles)
  • OPM (US reggae artists / UK chart single)
  • Subnoize Souljaz (U.S. rap artists)
  • AIM (Furness based international DJ artist)
  • Greg Vickers (UK international DJ)
  • DJ Food (UK international DJ)
  • Guns 2 Roses (international tribute to Guns N Roses)
  • Amenti (debut album just released)

Art Gene Events

Art Gene presents ‘Out of Place’ on Thursday 15th May 2008, 7:00 - 9:00 pm

‘Out of Place’ showcases photo, video and installation works by seven Chinese artists, most of whom are postgraduates from Xiamen University Art College. The exhibition reflects the concerns of these young Chinese artists’ about the reality in China now. They see the world from different angles: perspectives captured through their personal vision and now articulated in their art works.

The exhibition explores these unique perceptions and experiences, and highlights the sometimes jarring juxtaposition of cultures, events and imagery in a world somehow now ‘Out of Place’.

This exhibition has been made possible through the support from Visiting Arts and British Council.

Free - All welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Spare Room Start UpThere are lots of schemes and scams on the internet offering you a wonderful career, a fast buck with no set-up fees and easy money while you sleep.  It’s like the modern day equivalent of a gold rush.  However, anyone who has really tried to set up an internet business knows how misleading these claims are.  Some people do strike gold, but not without hard work, smart thinking and persistence.

In the second of our new video features, Emma Jones talks about the recent Enterprise Masterclass organised by Furness Enterprise, where local businesspeople were invited to hear two inspirational speakers: Sarah Dunning, who is the Cheif Executive of Westmorland, and Edwin Booth, Chairman of Booths Supermarkets.

On Friday, April 18th, Furness Young Professionals, in association with Furness Enterprise, hosted an exciting event featuring a presentation by Tori James, the youngest British woman to reach the summit of Everest.

Young professionals joined with local business leaders in an evening which was aimed at inspiring and motivating everyone who attended, and to raise the profile of Furness Young Professionals.

We Make Media were there to capture the event on film, and in the first of a series of new video features here on Go Furness, you can watch Sally Broom explaining about Furness Young Professionals, and their ambitions for the future.

The customer isn’t always right
Learn to avoid the common pitfalls of online marketing - discover what you really need, rather than what you think you need.

Big cats, and agile mice
It’s not just big corporate companies who can benefit from advances in media technology – more than anyone, smaller businesses are ideally positioned to take advantage.

Are you talking to me?
Browsing the internet is like listening to the radio, or reading a magazine. But unlike traditional media, your audience can answer back. You’d be wise to listen.

But it goes up to 11
The modern-day internet user is an impatient and fickle beast. There are simple and effective ways you can improve customer loyalty, and attract new business, just by giving them some value-added extras.

Viruses are a good thing
Word-of-mouth can be an amazingly effective marketing tool, and the internet is the biggest mouthpiece on earth. Let your customers do the talking with viral marketing.
