Go Furness

About. All you need to know

Kay Hebbourn

I have a rich and (fairly chequered!) background having worked as a casualty nurse, lecturer, manager, therapist and business woman. I am fascinated by people and always have been since I was tiny.

I have had my own business for about 15 years and would find it very difficult to be confined to a proper job with set hours now. I work hard, often starting my day at 5 and still working late at night on my website, www.goulverston.co.uk, promoting local businesses and events and working closely with other entrepreneurs to create new projects.

I also love linking local businesses with each other so that they can work in collaborative ways. Environmental, fair-trade and local trading issues are very close to my heart. Paul Moore has joined the campaign and we have started Go Barrow.

I do have a day job too, I am co-director of The Lakeland College of Homeopathy operating from Cumbria University and Regent’s College in London. The office is at Brathay where the photo was taken.

In my spare time (ha ha) I am very involved with a wacky group of people who make up UCAN (Ulverston Community Arts Network) and we are a powerful group of creatives who support and promote anything artsy in Ulverston. This year we are organising the Lantern Finale amongst other things. I am also chair of the local Chamber of Commerce.

I can often be found with my two mad dogs and crazy blue VW campervan anywhere along the coastline, in the woods or on Birkrigg. I have 3 kids ranging from 11–18 who I am incredibly proud of and somehow have managed to become great young people despite the fact I work so hard and am a regular source of embarrassment!
