First Aid at Work (HSE) Training Event

Overview

This four day course follows the full HSE first aid at work syllabus with additional occupational elements. The HSE requires the employer to have suitable persons first aid trained on the premises at all times. These first aiders must have attended an approved first aid training course. This course is designed so that delegates gain the required knowledge to act as the nominated first aider. The course material / handouts are used in conjunction with the Health and Safety Legislation and associated guidance from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Who will benefit?

This course is aimed at employees nominated as the first aider for their workplace. It is also suitable for those seeking a thorough understanding and wide range of skills for both minor conditions and major emergencies relating to adults, children and infants. Delegates do not require any previous experience.

Learning outcomes

Delegates will develop:

  • awareness and understanding of the legislation and employer duties
  • skills to assess, treat and follow up incidents
  • knowledge of how to manage an incident
  • skills to carry out primary and secondary assessments
  • ability to deal with life threatening emergencies
  • understanding of basic first aid
  • gain skills on providing CPR to an unconscious casualty
  • ability to provide medical care until a more qualified person arrives
  • understanding of the recording and reporting process
  • knowledge and skill to act as the ‘First Aider’ for your organisation

Programme

The course content will cover:

  • assess and prioritise a first aid incident
  • deal with an unconscious casualty
  • carry out resuscitation (CPR) on adults, children and babies
  • control bleeding and manage shock
  • deal with injuries to bones, muscles and joints
  • deal with a casualty suffering burns and scalds
  • deal with casualties overcome by fumes or suffering from poisoning
  • deal with a broad range of common injuries and illnesses
  • manage eye injuries
  • maintain records
  • use and maintain first aid kits

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course and final assessment, the delegate will receive the HSE approved, nationally recognised First Aid at Work Certificate, valid for three years.
