‘Business Rocks’ at the Canteen

Business certainly rocked yesterday, at this year’s ‘Business Rocks’ event at the Canteen Media & Arts Centre in Barrow-in-Furness.

As part of Enterprise Week, Furness Enterprise, the good people behind this website, organised two half-day music video workshops for pupils from local schools.

Set the challenge to produce a music video in under three hours, the pupils from Walney, Alfred Barrow and Parkview schools, rose to the occasion with a snap, crackle and pop. And impressed centre owner, Gary Robinson:

“We were blown away with what the pupils came up with,” he said. “They worked extremely hard and demonstrated talents that bode well for the future of Barrow’s creative industry.”

The Year 10 pupils had just three hours to come up with a name and logo for a pop group, perform and produce its first song and film an accompanying music video.

They were assisted by Musgrave Design & Advertising, East Beach Studios and Northern Riviera Productions, companies based in the the Media & Arts Centre.

As well as being home to creative types, like DJ Gripper, the Canteen is one of the region’s most exciting multi-purpose venues, boasting a cinema room, showing independent films and Premier League football (in HD), and live music from some of the best bands on the indie and dance music scene.

Recent acts have included British Sea Power, Enter Shikari and Bat for Lashes. Find out more about the Canteen on its MySpace page. Or see pictures from the Business Rocks event on the link below.
