FYP bonfire goes off with a bang!

Discerning Furness Young Professionals forsook the thrills on offer at the boat, on the strip and down the pit to venture out to the wilds of Fell Foot for the FYP annual magical mystery bonfire on Friday night.

Partygoers boarded a specially chartered coach to arrive en masse at the amphitheatre in Fell Foot Woods near Newby Bridge where they were met with lashings of free booze, great food, wicked DJ sets from Mister Sushi and JT, live music from Bag O Spanners and of course the bonfire, topped by an expedition up to the edge of the valley for a 20 minute firework display.

Considerable effort has been put into this place by owner Barry Houghton, who’s been welcoming campers and hosting various events here throughout the summer. He’s landscaped the clearing, put up a stage and covered marquee and provided real, clean WC facilities which went down a storm with the less ‘outdoor enthusiastic’ FYPers who were caught short by last year’s toilet-in-a-shed, sawdust and torch scenario.

In what was a beautiful (if dark) location great use was made of glowsticks to orientate the crowd amidst the dancing, drinking and much socialising that took place, with lots of newcomers from BAE and elsewhere reporting how pleased they were to be exposed to new people in such a unique and civilised venue – and most unusually of all, with proper music too.

The coach arrived all too soon at 11pm but the party carried on late into the night both back in town and at impromptu house parties nearby. Another successful event from the FYP, roll on the Christmas party…

COMING SOON: The Furness Young Professionals Christmas party – keep tuned to Go Furness for details soon!
