Healthy and Sustainable Stadia Workshop
Barrow RFC are delighted to invite you to an event aimed at sharing best practice in sports development and looking for solutions as to how sport and a community stadium can play a wider role in building healthy and sustainable communities. Almost two-thirds of rugby league stadia are located in areas of multiple deprivation, yet often remain a facility that is used every other weekend for just fifteen days each year.
This event will explore the potential of community stadia as a catalyst for promoting positive healthy lifestyles in their district. The event will also look at the opportunity that exists for community stadia to become a sustainable facility, and explore the potential of a “carbon-neutral” venue.
The event will have several aims:
- To share current knowledge on the role of sport and sports stadia in improving public health, including examples of good practice
- To identify gaps in provision in Cumbria
- To identify undeveloped or potential areas where sport and sports stadia could improve public health
- To explore issues and ideas around the concept of a “carbon-neutral” stadium
- To identify obstacles to the development work in this area and to propose solutions
- To share the resulting information with key partners and both professional and grassroots sports clubs throughout the county
The aim is to achieve this using case studies from outside the district, stimulating discussion and exploring the issues in the context of Barrow-in-Furness and south Cumbria. Any information gathered at the event will be circulated to attendees and other interested parties in the region, with a view to sharing best practice.
The event is taking place on Wednesday 11th March at Abbey House Hotel. You can find out more by downloading the information pack below.
