Light Out at Bleach House Gallery
The Bleach House Gallery is hosting a couple of world-class exhibitions in the next few months. The first of these is “Lights Out” by Sophie Hedderwick, running from 5th August to 13th September.
Sophie Hedderwick is an experimental textile artist who combines ancient weaving techniques with cutting-edge materials and computer-aided techniques not usually associated with textiles, giving her pieces a highly unique and contemporary edge.
Her most exciting products are known as ‘smart textiles’ which are fabrics that integrate neon el wires. These textiles are hung as a multi-media installation in the gallery’s vaulted cellars, with music by Jonathan Girling, words by Edward Thomas, percussion from Janey Maynard and vocals by Simon Hall. As the sound ebbs and flows, like an hypnotic seascape, the textiles seem to appear and dematerialise in front of your very eyes forcing the viewer to interact with the work.
Bleach House are delighted to be able to show ‘Lights Out’, exhibited in New York to critical acclaim, as the first stop-off on a British tour running in 2008.
