Rally behind North West’s bid to be best in Britain
Furness Enterprise is calling on everyone in Furness to cross their fingers for them on the 16 October 2008 as they head to Downing Street for the national finals of Enterprising Britain 2008.
Furness Enterprise, named in the summer as the North West’s Enterprising Britain finalist, is up against 11 other places from across the UK in the battle to be crowned the most enterprising place in Britain. If named the overall winner of Enterprising Britain 2008, Furness will then go on to compete with the best of Europe by representing the UK in the prestigious European Enterprise Awards.
The Encouraging Entrepreneurship in Furness project has been singled-out for its efforts to build a culture of enterprise in Furness through a comprehensive programme of events, online activity, networks and publications. This activity has resulted in new business start-ups, more young people staying in and returning to the area and a more ‘can-do’ and confident attitude from local businesses, large and small.
John Barker, project manager of the Encouraging Entrepreneurship in Furness project said:
“Having been underway for five years, I was delighted when our project received such positive recognition that led to Furness being crowned the Northwest Capital of Enterprise. We are up against some tough competition in the national heats but our enterprising approach has got us this far – there’s no reason why it can’t take us right to the top of being the national winner.”
Enterprising Britain 2008 is a nationwide competition run by Make Your Mark on behalf of the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), and in partnership with the Northwest Regional Development Agency. Now in its fourth year, the competition celebrates and rewards the most enterprising areas the UK; those places of enterprise excellence that have helped transform the social and economic fortunes for their area.
