Strong words for the Furness economy
A recent report on the North West economy provides encouraging news for Furness.
The North West Index of Economic Resilience, examines the performance of every local authority across the region. It looks at a range of factors, including the strength of local enterprise, and how dynamic businesses are – all of the things which contribute to a strong, and resilient local economy.
The report contains some great news for Furness:
- Barrow-in-Furness is ranked top for enterprise improvement, due to more business start-ups, and better business sustainability.
- Improved communication technologies have been a key factor for attracting business start-ups in South Lakeland, and it ranks second in the list top local economies.
- And good news for Barrow’s resilience in the labour market: improvements in the skills of the area’s workforce sees Barrow ranked fourth in the top Labour Market Improvers.
