Welcome to Paradise

Welcome to Paradise is Art Gene’s current collaborative programme of work featuring artists, architects and designers. The programme begins in November 2008 with a series of 5 events developed in collaboration with UHC: It’s Not As Rough As It Used To Be identifies and promotes discussion around neglected, or unknown, built and natural ‘assets’.

“Starting the search for potential assets to the town beyond the obvious gives us a bit of extra length and breadth. It’s also risky, experimental, edgy. It throws a curved ball back at the other contestants. But there is precedence: Barrow has – and to an extent continues to, play fast and lose with its natural and visual environment. To that extent we’re just putting a little good art and design into the mix.” – Jai Redman UHC

The events are linked to Art Gene’s initial work with Barrow Borough Council to develop an ecologically sensitive design-led approach to enhancing access to the islands of Barrow and other regeneration focused projects across west coast Cumbria and within housing renewal.
