What FYP means to me
Richard is new to the area, and since relocating has hooked up with the Furness Young Professionals. He tells us about his first impressions.
“I have recently moved up to the area and I have been trying to get involved with as much as I can in order to meet new people and to help me settle into my new surroundings.
“I came across FYP when searching the internet and I signed up for the first FYP event that I could go to. Even though everyone up here is very friendly it is in fact very difficult to meet new people without knowing someone else first and although I have met plenty of people (through work and the local running club) it is even more difficult to meet people of your own age and with similar interests.
“FYP was the perfect introduction for me. From not knowing anyone my own age really I went along to an FYP event and was welcomed into a group of about 15–20 young professionals, all living locally and all doing different things. For me, FYP has been a vital way to meet new people and new friends but it is also much more than that. It brings together a variety of individuals who enjoy meeting up and having fun together but who can also share and pool resources to help each other.
“From this pool, FYP also offers support and inspiration to younger people in the local area who will hopefully one day join FYP themselves, bringing their own experiences, expertise and interests.”
