Pocodot Entertainment
Elaine is very well known in the Barrow area for her long-standing work in theatre especially with Furness Youth Theatre (formerly ACT). She studied performing arts has since done a lot of volunteer work in the area over the years while she stayed at home raising her son.
She recently launched her business ‘Pocodot Entertainment’ www.myspace.com/pocodotproductions and has been very busy so far. Like many artists who go into business, Elaine splits her time between funded projects, work in schools, private work, corporate work, community work and her own artistic ventures.
The business start-up course has helped her to do her market research and identify a gap in the market. She said it has given her the confidence to go for it knowing that she has back-up and that there is always an advisor to speak to.
She is offering a unique package for children’s parties doing face and body painting, bowling, darts, parachute games, story-telling and mask-making. She forms an excellent rapport with children quickly because she sees things from their perspective. These parties are interactive and the children get involved rather than just being entertained.
With grown-ups, Elaine offers trust workshops, and other drama-based exercises helping them to improve confidence and self-esteem. Elaine is so down-to-earth and easy to be with, that I can imagine that people will feel comfortable and really able to enter into the spirit of the workshops.
Elaine works with schools and drama groups helping with productions, specialising in scenery, costumes and props. She is familiar with the national curriculum and keeps her work relevant but interesting for the children. I have seen her in action and she just gets on with it creating things quickly and effortlessly. She is ideally placed in Furness which means that she knows the area, will not add to a company or school’s travel costs and can promote the productions locally.
She has also been involved with the painting of large corporate murals such as the one she did for Marl in Ulverston.
Elaine is still learning and exploring. In November Elaine will be undertaking the design and construction of a “test set” for Regent St Studios in Morecambe, this will be as a precurser to involving her in future film projects.?2009 sees Elaine joining the teaching staff at the studio to teach the creative angle of stop frame animation on their courses aimed at schools.?In the near future Elaine is looking to expand her face-painting into uv parties aimed at older age groups, including a special party package under developement as we speak!
