Roa, Roa, Roa your boat!
Karl Smith has been paddling from the shores of Rampside since childhood and is passionate about the outdoors. Following the completion of his environmental science degree, he has been involved with outdoor education and activities throughout Britain and worldwide.
Karl organises environmentally sustainable activities like sea kayaking, and always adheres to recognised (wildlife) codes of conduct.
Karl is currently lecturing in outdoor education, leisure and tourism, near the North Wales border, but spends weekends returning to Rampside. He runs a business called West Coast Sea Kayaking, and is about to launch a separate business Cumbria Sea Kayaking, here in Barrow.
Karl will run courses, expeditions and trainings from Roa Island, taking people to see the seals at Walney, Piel Island and beyond. Sally Broom is organising a day trip for the young graduates this weekend, and Karl will take them out to sea! The small group will paddle from 9.30 in the morning to mid afternoon, following some instructions and safety tips.
Karl’s plans include developing a powerful online presence so that people can find him easily, investing in more equipment so that he can take bigger groups out and setting up longer expeditions.
Sea kayaking offers you a perfect way to explore the Furness coastline, see wildlife such as seals and basking sharks and experience nature in a unique way. The quiet glide of the kayak helps you to really unwind and de-stress, at the same time as keeping you fit and having fun.
Karl can be contacted through his current website www.westcoastseakayaking and is offering day trips most weekends. He is happy to work with any small groups. Individuals require a basic level of fitness. It is perfect for birthday treats, corporate work or recreation. Gift vouchers are also available.
Karl provides quality instruction and uses quality equipment. He aims to ensure that you have a positive, enjoyable experience.
Come on, you know you want to
